In addition to the dinner program, our "never to be missed" joy-filled concert at Merrill Auditorium is scheduled for Friday, January 15. This family-friendly event features performers of all ages including King Middle School's Knightlife Ensemble and Chorus; Women in Harmony with a special performance with students from Casco Bay High School; award winning singer songwriter Samuel James and the Green Memorial AME Zion Church.

On Saturday, January 16, a youth summit led by the Martin Luther King Jr. Fellows will take place at the University of Southern Maine. The summit will explore the White House initiative, My Brother's Keeper, and its implementation locally. Mayor Strimling will be joined USM President Glenn Cummings and Portland Public Schools Interim Superintendent Jeanne Crocker in a discussion about the opportunity gaps facing youth of color in Portland.

To honor the life and legacy of Dr. King, the branch is hosting a dinner at the Holiday Inn by the Bay featuring music and a keynote address along with a special welcome from Portland Mayor Ethan Strimling. A children's program accompanies the dinner for ages 6 - 13 sponsored in association with Goodwill of Northern New England.
